We ran into a similar situation with the Bentley CD with "only" 1000 images. I came across two images that looked the same but one was printed lighter. When we viewed the "thumbnails" of all the flakes a number of images were within a few rows of there duplicates and on the same page (we had 10 pages of 100 images)I think we found one quite a distance from its duplicate (lucky find). One does find some repeated patterns but I doubt we will ever find an exact duplicate of a "mature" flake.
